Tiramisu Brownies Recipe
Tiramisu Brownies are the perfect combination of two irresistible desserts: rich, fudgy chocolate brownies and classic creamy tiramisu. These decadent brownies have a deep chocolate flavor, a delicious coffee-soaked layer, and a smooth mascarpone topping finished with a generous dusting of cocoa powder. They are easy enough for a weekend treat but impressive enough to serve at parties, family gatherings, and special occasions.
Ingredients
For the Brownies
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
For the Coffee Mixture
- ½ cup strong brewed coffee
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon coffee liqueur, optional
For the Mascarpone Topping
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Garnishing
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Grated chocolate, optional
Directions
1. Prepare the Oven and Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a little extra paper hanging over the sides. This will make it much easier to lift the brownies from the pan later. Lightly grease the parchment paper.
2. Make the Brownie Batter
Add the melted butter and granulated sugar to a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir gently with a spatula until everything is just combined. Avoid overmixing because this can make the brownies less fudgy.
3. Bake the Brownies
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer. Bake for approximately 20–25 minutes. The edges should look set while the center should remain slightly soft and fudgy.
Insert a toothpick into the center. A few moist crumbs are ideal. Avoid baking until the toothpick comes out completely clean, as this can result in dry brownies.
Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.
4. Prepare the Coffee Mixture
While the brownies are cooling, prepare the coffee mixture. Combine the strong brewed coffee and sugar in a small bowl and stir until the sugar dissolves. If desired, add a teaspoon of coffee liqueur for a more traditional tiramisu flavor.
Allow the coffee mixture to cool completely.
5. Make the Mascarpone Cream
Place the softened mascarpone cheese, heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract into a mixing bowl. Beat on medium speed until the mixture becomes smooth, creamy, and thick enough to spread.
Be careful not to overbeat the mixture, as mascarpone can become grainy if beaten too much.
6. Assemble the Tiramisu Brownies
Once the brownies have completely cooled, gently brush or drizzle the coffee mixture over the surface. Don’t soak the brownies excessively; you want them to have a pleasant coffee flavor without becoming soggy.
Spread the mascarpone cream evenly over the coffee-infused brownie layer.
7. Chill and Finish
Cover the pan and refrigerate the brownies for at least 2 hours. Chilling helps the mascarpone layer set and makes the brownies easier to slice.
Before serving, generously dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder. You can also sprinkle grated chocolate over the top for an extra chocolatey finish.
Cut into squares using a sharp knife. For especially neat slices, wipe the knife clean between cuts.
Tips for the Best Tiramisu Brownies
For the richest brownies, use good-quality unsweetened cocoa powder and don’t overbake them. Make sure the brownies are completely cool before adding the mascarpone topping. Chilling overnight gives the flavors even more time to blend together.
These brownies are best served cold or slightly chilled. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
