Simple DIY Skincare Routine for Dark Spots, Wrinkles & Dark Circles
This gentle routine uses simple skincare ingredients to help keep the skin moisturized, protected, and looking brighter. It won’t remove dark spots, wrinkles, or dark circles overnight, but consistent skincare and sun protection can improve the appearance of skin over time.
Ingredients
Morning
- Gentle facial cleanser
- Niacinamide serum (4–5%)
- Fragrance-free moisturizer
- Broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 sunscreen
Evening
- Gentle facial cleanser
- Retinol serum or cream, used as directed
- Fragrance-free moisturizer
For Dark Circles
- Caffeine-based eye cream or serum
- A small amount of moisturizer suitable for the eye area
Directions
1. Cleanse
Wash your face gently with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water.
Pat your skin dry rather than rubbing it.
2. Apply Niacinamide
In the morning, apply a thin layer of niacinamide serum to your face.
Avoid getting it directly into your eyes.
3. Moisturize
Apply a gentle moisturizer to help maintain the skin barrier and prevent dryness.
4. Apply Sunscreen
Finish your morning routine with SPF 30–50.
Apply it generously to your face, neck, and other exposed areas. Reapply when appropriate, especially after sweating or prolonged outdoor exposure.
5. Use Retinol at Night
After cleansing, apply a small amount of retinol to completely dry skin.
Start 2–3 nights per week and gradually increase frequency if your skin tolerates it.
Follow with moisturizer.
6. Treat the Under-Eye Area Gently
Apply a small amount of caffeine eye product around the orbital bone, avoiding the eyelids and direct contact with the eyes.
Don’t rub or scrub the delicate under-eye skin.
Important Tips
- Do not use baking soda on your face.
- Don’t scrub dark spots aggressively.
- Don’t apply lemon juice directly to your skin.
- Give skincare products several weeks of consistent use rather than expecting overnight results.
- Always patch-test new products if you have sensitive skin.
- Retinoids should generally be avoided during pregnancy unless your healthcare professional specifically advises otherwise.
Best simple combination: gentle cleanser + niacinamide + moisturizer + daily sunscreen in the morning, followed by gentle retinol and moisturizer at night.
