One-Pan Chicken with Buttered Noodles
This One-Pan Chicken with Buttered Noodles is a simple, comforting dinner made with tender chicken, buttery egg noodles, garlic, and savory broth. Everything cooks together in one pan, making cleanup easy while delivering plenty of cozy homemade flavor.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb (680 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 12 oz (340 g) wide egg noodles
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Directions
1. Season the Chicken
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
Season both sides with paprika, onion powder, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
2. Brown the Chicken
Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the chicken and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until nicely browned.
Transfer the chicken to a plate. It doesn’t need to be fully cooked yet.
3. Sauté the Garlic
Reduce the heat to medium.
Add the remaining butter to the same pan, followed by the minced garlic.
Cook for about 30–60 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
4. Add the Noodles and Broth
Pour in the chicken broth and scrape the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Bring the broth to a gentle boil.
Add the egg noodles and stir to make sure they’re mostly submerged.
5. Return the Chicken
Nestle the browned chicken into the noodles.
Cover the pan and reduce the heat to medium-low.
Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring the noodles occasionally, until the noodles are tender and the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) internally.
6. Make It Creamy
Remove the chicken temporarily if needed.
Stir the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese into the noodles.
Cook uncovered for another 2–3 minutes, until the sauce becomes creamy and coats the noodles.
7. Finish and Serve
Slice the chicken and arrange it over the buttery noodles.
Sprinkle with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan if desired.
Serve hot.
Recipe Tips
- Chicken thighs stay especially juicy, while chicken breasts provide a leaner option.
- Stir the noodles occasionally while they cook to prevent them from sticking together.
- If the noodles absorb the liquid too quickly, add a small splash of warm chicken broth.
- For extra vegetables, add peas, spinach, mushrooms, or broccoli.
- Freshly grated Parmesan melts more smoothly into the sauce.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3–4 days and reheat gently with a splash of broth or milk.
