Marble Banana Bread
Moist, tender banana bread swirled with rich chocolate batter for a beautiful marbled effect. The combination of sweet ripe bananas and chocolate makes this loaf perfect for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or dessert.
🍌 Ingredients
For the Banana Batter
- 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
- ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted
- ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup (60 ml) milk or buttermilk
For the Chocolate Batter
- ¼ cup (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons milk
- ½ cup chocolate chips, optional
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
2. Mash the Bananas
Place the ripe bananas in a large bowl.
Mash them with a fork until mostly smooth. A few small pieces are perfectly fine.
3. Make the Banana Batter
Add the melted butter and sugar to the mashed bananas.
Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture.
Stir gently until just combined.
Add the milk and mix until the batter is smooth.
Don’t overmix.
4. Create the Chocolate Batter
Transfer approximately ⅓ of the banana batter to a separate bowl.
Add the cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons of milk.
Stir until thoroughly combined.
Fold in chocolate chips if desired.
5. Create the Marble Effect
Spoon alternating portions of the plain banana batter and chocolate batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Use a butter knife or skewer to gently swirl through the batter several times.
Don’t swirl too much—you want distinct ribbons of chocolate and banana.
6. Bake
Bake for approximately 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
If the top starts browning too quickly, loosely cover it with foil during the final 15 minutes.
7. Cool
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes.
Lift it out using the parchment paper and transfer it to a wire rack.
Let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
⭐ Tips for Perfect Marble Banana Bread
- Use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots for the best flavor.
- Don’t overmix the batter after adding the flour.
- Use room-temperature eggs for a smoother batter.
- Don’t over-swirl the chocolate mixture or the marble pattern can disappear.
- For an extra chocolatey loaf, add chocolate chips to the chocolate portion.
- Let the loaf cool before slicing so it doesn’t crumble.
