Ingredients
- 1 large Italian sub roll or French baguette
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 6 slices mozzarella cheese
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 oz (115 g) sliced ham
- 4 oz (115 g) sliced salami
- 4 oz (115 g) sliced pepperoni
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup sliced banana peppers or roasted red peppers, optional
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
Directions
1. Prepare the Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
Mix until smooth.
2. Prepare the Bread
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Slice the sub roll lengthwise, being careful not to cut completely through.
Spread the garlic butter generously over the inside surfaces of the bread.
3. Layer the Fillings
Place the mozzarella and provolone over the bottom half of the roll.
Layer the ham, salami, and pepperoni evenly over the cheese.
Add banana peppers or roasted red peppers if desired.
Sprinkle Parmesan and red pepper flakes over the top.
4. Bake
Place the open sandwich on a baking sheet.
Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the bread is crisp around the edges.
For extra browning, switch to broil for 1–2 minutes, watching carefully.
5. Finish and Serve
Remove from the oven and sprinkle with additional fresh parsley if desired.
Close the sandwich and let it rest for 2 minutes.
Cut into portions and serve hot.
Recipe Tips
- Use a sturdy Italian roll so it can hold all the fillings without becoming soggy.
- Spread garlic butter all the way to the edges for maximum flavor.
- Don’t overload the sandwich with wet ingredients.
- Add sliced mushrooms, onions, spinach, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
- Substitute turkey, chicken, or roast beef for the deli meats if preferred.
- For a pizza-style version, add a thin layer of marinara sauce before the cheese.
- Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
- Enjoy immediately for the best crispy bread and gooey cheese.
