If your mop has become gray, greasy, or smelly, you don’t necessarily need to throw it away. A simple deep-cleaning soak can help remove built-up dirt and odors.
🧼 What You’ll Need
- 1 bucket of hot water
- ½ cup white vinegar
- 1–2 tablespoons baking soda
- A small amount of liquid dish soap
🧽 Instructions
- Rinse the mop first under running water to remove loose dirt.
- Fill a bucket with hot water.
- Add the dish soap and vinegar.
- Place the mop head in the solution and soak for 15–20 minutes.
- Remove it and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Sprinkle or add the baking soda separately while rinsing and gently scrub stubborn areas.
- Rinse again until the water runs clear.
- Air-dry the mop completely in a well-ventilated area or sunlight.
⚠️ Important
Never mix vinegar with bleach or chlorine-containing cleaners. This can produce dangerous chlorine gas.
Also, check the mop manufacturer’s cleaning instructions, especially if the mop head is made from microfiber or has removable components.
Tip: Cleaning and completely drying your mop after each use helps prevent the buildup of bacteria, mildew, and unpleasant odors.
