This Homemade Creamy Mango Ice Cream is rich, smooth, fruity, and incredibly easy to make. It has a delicious fresh-mango flavor and a creamy texture without requiring an ice cream maker. Perfect for hot summer days, family gatherings, or a refreshing homemade dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 large ripe mangoes
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled
- ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, optional
- 2–3 tablespoons mango pieces, optional, for extra texture
Directions
1. Prepare the Mangoes
Peel the mangoes and remove the pits.
Cut the flesh into chunks and place them in a blender or food processor.
Blend until completely smooth.
You should have approximately 1½–2 cups of mango purée.
For an especially smooth ice cream, strain the purée through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any fibers.
2. Add a Little Citrus
Mix the lemon or lime juice into the mango purée.
This small amount of acidity helps brighten the mango flavor and balances the sweetness.
Set the purée aside.
3. Whip the Cream
Pour the cold heavy cream into a large chilled mixing bowl.
Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until soft to medium peaks form.
Be careful not to overwhip the cream.
4. Add the Condensed Milk
Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk into the whipped cream.
Add the vanilla extract.
Gently fold everything together with a spatula until smooth and creamy.
5. Add the Mango
Pour the mango purée into the cream mixture.
Fold gently until the mango is evenly incorporated.
If you want little pieces of mango throughout the ice cream, fold in the reserved diced mango.
Taste the mixture. If your mangoes aren’t very sweet, add a little powdered sugar.
6. Freeze
Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container.
Smooth the top with a spatula.
Cover tightly with a lid or plastic wrap pressed directly against the surface.
Freeze for 6–8 hours, preferably overnight.
7. Serve
Remove the ice cream from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for approximately 5–10 minutes before scooping.
Serve in bowls or cones.
For an extra-special presentation, top with:
- Fresh mango cubes
- Toasted coconut
- Chopped pistachios
- Mint leaves
- A drizzle of mango purée
Dos and Don’ts
Do ✅
- Do use very ripe, sweet mangoes for the strongest flavor.
- Do chill the heavy cream before whipping.
- Do use full-fat cream for the creamiest texture.
- Do strain fibrous mango purée if necessary.
- Do fold the ingredients gently to maintain the airiness.
- Do cover the ice cream tightly before freezing.
- Do let it soften for a few minutes before scooping.
Don’t ❌
- Don’t use unripe or sour mangoes unless you adjust the sweetness.
- Don’t overwhip the cream, or it can become grainy.
- Don’t add too much mango liquid, as excess water can create ice crystals.
- Don’t leave the container uncovered in the freezer.
- Don’t repeatedly thaw and refreeze the ice cream.
- Don’t skip the chilling time—the mixture needs several hours to fully set.
Tips for Extra Creamy Mango Ice Cream
Use Alphonso or Ataulfo mangoes:
These varieties are naturally sweet, fragrant, and relatively low in fiber, making them excellent for ice cream.
Want stronger mango flavor?
Reduce the mango purée slightly in a saucepan over low heat, then cool it completely before adding it to the cream mixture. This concentrates the flavor without adding extra liquid.
Want a mango swirl?
Reserve a few tablespoons of mango purée. After transferring the ice cream to the container, drizzle the purée over the top and gently swirl it with a knife.
Want extra richness?
Add 1–2 tablespoons of full-fat milk powder to the mixture before freezing.
Storage
Keep the ice cream in a tightly sealed freezer-safe container.
For the best flavor and texture, enjoy it within 2–3 weeks.
If it becomes very firm, allow it to sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before scooping.
