Hamburger Potato Hash
Hamburger Potato Hash is a simple, comforting one-pan meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights. Tender golden potatoes are cooked with savory ground beef and onions, then finished with melted cheese for a delicious, satisfying dinner the whole family will enjoy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced into small cubes
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- ¼ cup water or beef broth
Instructions
1. Cook the Beef
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned.
Add the diced onion and garlic and cook for another 2–3 minutes, until softened. Drain excess grease if necessary.
2. Cook the Potatoes
Add the olive oil and diced potatoes to the skillet. Stir everything together.
Season with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
3. Cover and Cook
Pour in the water or beef broth and stir. Cover the skillet and cook over medium-low heat for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender.
4. Crisp the Hash
Remove the lid and increase the heat to medium. Cook for another 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes develop golden, crispy edges.
5. Add Cheese
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Cover the skillet for 1–2 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
6. Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
Tips for the Best Hamburger Potato Hash
- Cut the potatoes into small, evenly sized cubes so they cook quickly and evenly.
- Avoid stirring constantly; allowing the potatoes to sit in the skillet helps them develop crispy edges.
- You can add bell peppers, mushrooms, corn, or peas for extra flavor and vegetables.
- For a spicy version, add red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños.
- Top with a fried egg for an extra hearty breakfast-style meal.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat for the best texture.
