Ginger, Garlic & Oregano Water
This is a simple herbal drink that people commonly use for digestion and as a general wellness drink. It isn’t a proven treatment or “detox” drink, but the individual ingredients contain compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Ingredients
- 1½ cups water
- ½ inch fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 1 garlic clove, lightly crushed
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano or 1 teaspoon fresh oregano
- ½ teaspoon lemon juice — optional

- Add the sliced ginger and crushed garlic.
- Bring to a gentle boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and add the oregano.
- Cover and let it steep for 3–5 minutes.
- Strain into a cup.
- Add lemon juice or a little honey if desired.
- Drink it warm.
Potential Benefits
- Digestion: Ginger may help with nausea and digestive discomfort.
- Gas and bloating: Ginger may help some people with digestive bloating and gas.
- Antioxidants: Garlic, ginger, and oregano contain antioxidant compounds.
- Anti-inflammatory properties: Ginger and garlic contain compounds that have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, although drinking this mixture isn’t a substitute for medical treatment.
- Immune support: These foods contain nutrients and plant compounds that contribute to a healthy diet, but they shouldn’t be considered an immunity “booster” or cure.
How often can you drink it?
For most healthy adults, 1 cup occasionally or once daily is reasonable. There’s no good evidence that drinking several cups a day provides extra benefits.
Important: Garlic and ginger can cause heartburn or stomach irritation in some people. Garlic and ginger can also affect blood clotting, so if you take blood-thinning medication or have a bleeding disorder, check with a healthcare professional before using concentrated amounts regularly.
