Creamy Milk Bread
This creamy milk bread is incredibly soft, fluffy, and tender with a delicate milky flavor. Made with milk, butter, and a simple yeast dough, it’s perfect for breakfast, sandwiches, toast, or enjoying warm with a little butter and jam.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup warm whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
For the Topping
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 tablespoon milk or heavy cream
Directions
1. Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
Add the warm milk, egg, and heavy cream. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Add the softened butter and knead for 8–10 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth, soft, and elastic.
2. Let the Dough Rise
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
3. Shape the Bread
Gently press down the risen dough to release excess air.
Divide it into 3 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth log or ball.
Place the pieces into a greased loaf pan, leaving a little space between them.
Cover and let the dough rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until noticeably puffy.
4. Bake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the top of the risen dough lightly with milk or heavy cream.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when gently tapped.
5. Add the Butter
Remove the bread from the oven and immediately brush the top with melted butter.
Let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool.
How to Serve
Enjoy creamy milk bread warm with:
- Butter and honey
- Strawberry or raspberry jam
- Peanut butter
- Cream cheese
- Scrambled eggs
- Tea or coffee
Recipe Tips
- Use warm milk, not hot milk, so you don’t damage the yeast.
- Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic for the softest texture.
- Don’t add too much extra flour. A slightly soft dough produces a more tender loaf.
- Allow the dough enough time to rise; the exact time depends on room temperature.
- Brush the finished loaf with butter while it’s still warm for a soft, flavorful crust.
- Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
