Classic Deviled Eggs
These classic deviled eggs are creamy, tangy, and incredibly easy to make. With perfectly cooked eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, and a touch of pickle relish, they make a delicious appetizer, party snack, or holiday side dish.
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
- Paprika, for garnish
- Fresh chives or parsley, optional
Directions
1. Boil the Eggs
Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water by about 1 inch. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, cover the pan, remove it from the heat, and let the eggs sit for 10–12 minutes.
2. Cool the Eggs
Transfer the cooked eggs to a bowl of ice water. Let them cool for at least 5 minutes. This stops the cooking process and makes peeling easier.
3. Peel and Cut
Carefully peel the eggs and rinse away any small pieces of shell. Slice each egg in half lengthwise.
Remove the yolks and place them in a small bowl.
4. Make the Filling
Mash the egg yolks with a fork until finely crumbled. Add the mayonnaise, mustard, pickle relish, salt, and black pepper.
Mix until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
5. Fill the Egg Whites
Spoon the yolk mixture into the hollow centers of the egg whites. For a more polished presentation, transfer the filling to a piping bag and pipe it into each egg half.
6. Garnish and Serve
Lightly sprinkle the deviled eggs with paprika. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired.
Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to enjoy.
Recipe Tips
- Use eggs that are a few days old because they are often easier to peel than very fresh eggs.
- For extra creamy filling, blend the yolk mixture until completely smooth.
- Add a little hot sauce or cayenne pepper for a spicy version.
- For a sweeter flavor, use sweet pickle relish; for a tangier version, use dill relish.
- Refrigerate deviled eggs in an airtight container and enjoy within 2 days.
