Ingredients
For the Crust
- 1 lb (450 g) refrigerated or homemade pizza dough
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Apple Topping
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
For the Streusel
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
For Finishing
- ½ cup caramel sauce
- ¼ cup chopped pecans, optional
- Powdered sugar, optional
Directions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Line a large baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Apple Filling
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and flour.
Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples begin to soften and become coated in a thick syrup.
Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
3. Make the Streusel
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, and salt.
Add the cold cubed butter.
Use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the dry ingredients until coarse crumbs form.
4. Shape the Crust
Place the pizza dough on the prepared baking sheet.
Stretch or roll it into a 12–14-inch round or oval, approximately ¼-inch thick.
Brush the surface with melted butter.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle evenly over the crust.
5. Add the Apple Topping
Arrange the cooked apples evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edge.
Sprinkle the streusel mixture generously over the apples.
Add chopped pecans if desired.
6. Bake
Bake for 18–25 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the streusel is crisp.
If the edges brown too quickly, loosely cover them with foil.
7. Add the Caramel
Remove the dessert pizza from the oven.
Let it cool for approximately 5–10 minutes.
Drizzle generously with warm caramel sauce.
8. Serve
Slice into wedges and serve warm.
For an extra-special dessert, serve with vanilla ice cream and another drizzle of caramel.
Recipe Tips
- Use firm apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady so they hold their shape during baking.
- Don’t add too much apple filling, as excess moisture can make the crust soggy.
- Keep the streusel pieces varied in size for a better crunchy texture.
- Warm the caramel slightly before drizzling so it spreads easily.
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
- A small pinch of flaky sea salt on the caramel creates a delicious sweet-and-salty contrast.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat individual slices in a toaster oven or air fryer for the best texture.
