Bacon Puff Pinwheels
These Bacon Puff Pinwheels are crispy, buttery, cheesy, and packed with savory bacon flavor. Made with flaky puff pastry, creamy cheese, and crispy bacon, they’re an easy appetizer that’s perfect for parties, brunches, game days, or casual snacking.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 6 slices bacon, cooked until crisp and crumbled
- 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, optional
Directions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry
Unroll the thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface.
Gently roll it out slightly to create an even rectangle.
3. Add the Filling
Spread the softened cream cheese evenly over the pastry, leaving about ½ inch around the edges.
Sprinkle the cheddar, mozzarella, crumbled bacon, green onions, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and black pepper evenly over the top.
4. Roll the Pastry
Starting from one long side, tightly roll the pastry into a log.
Pinch the seam gently to seal it.
Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes to firm it up for easier slicing.
5. Slice the Pinwheels
Using a sharp knife, cut the log into approximately ½-inch slices.
Arrange the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them.
6. Add the Egg Wash
Whisk together the egg and water.
Lightly brush the tops and exposed pastry edges with the egg wash.
Sprinkle with Parmesan if desired.
7. Bake
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown, crisp, and puffed and the cheese is melted.
8. Cool and Serve
Allow the pinwheels to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Serve warm with ranch dressing, honey mustard, marinara sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Recipe Tips
- Make sure the puff pastry is thawed but still cool when you roll and slice it.
- Cook the bacon until crisp and drain it well to prevent greasy pinwheels.
- Don’t overfill the pastry or the filling may spill out while baking.
- Chilling the rolled pastry makes it much easier to slice cleanly.
- Try adding diced jalapeños for a spicy version.
- Swap cheddar for pepper Jack, Swiss, or Gruyère for a different flavor.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in an oven or air fryer to restore the crisp texture.
