Warm Baked Apple Fritters
These warm baked apple fritters are soft, fluffy, and packed with juicy cinnamon-spiced apples. Instead of deep-frying, they’re baked until golden and finished with a sweet vanilla glaze. They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy afternoon treat.
Ingredients
For the Apple Fritters
- 2 medium apples, peeled and finely diced
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice — optional
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
2. Prepare the Apples
Peel and finely dice the apples.
For the best texture, use firm apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady.
Pat the diced apples dry with a paper towel if they release a lot of juice.
3. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Salt
4. Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together:
- Egg
- Milk
- Melted butter
- Vanilla
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients.
Stir gently until just combined.
Don’t overmix—the batter should remain slightly thick and lumpy.
5. Add the Apples
Fold the diced apples into the batter until evenly distributed.
The mixture should be thick enough to hold its shape.
If it seems too wet, add 1 tablespoon flour at a time.
6. Shape the Fritters
Scoop approximately ¼ cup of batter for each fritter.
Place the portions on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them.
Gently flatten the tops with the back of a spoon.
7. Bake
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the fritters are puffed and golden brown.
For a deeper golden finish, brush the tops with a little melted butter during the final few minutes.
8. Make the Glaze
While the fritters are baking, whisk together:
- Powdered sugar
- Milk
- Vanilla
- Lemon juice
Mix until smooth.
For a thicker glaze, add more powdered sugar.
For a thinner glaze, add a few drops of milk.
9. Glaze the Warm Fritters
Allow the baked fritters to cool for about 5 minutes.
Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm fritters.
For a thicker coating, dip the tops directly into the glaze and allow it to set for a few minutes.
🍏 Cinnamon Sugar Finish
If you don’t want a glaze, brush the warm fritters with melted butter and sprinkle with:
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
Serve immediately.
⭐ Tips for Perfect Apple Fritters
- Don’t cut the apples into large chunks; smaller pieces distribute more evenly.
- Use firm apples so they don’t completely disappear into the batter.
- Don’t overmix the batter or the fritters can become dense.
- Bake until the centers are fully cooked but still soft.
- Glaze the fritters while they’re warm, not piping hot.
- For extra apple flavor, add ½ tsp apple pie spice to the batter.
