Ginger, Lemon, Fenugreek & Olive Oil Drink
This combination of ginger, lemon, fenugreek seeds, and olive oil is sometimes promoted online as a natural drink for kidney stones and urinary problems. However, there is no reliable evidence that this drink dissolves kidney stones or cures a urinary tract infection (UTI).
You can still prepare it as a simple wellness drink, but it should not replace proper treatment.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm water
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1–2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
Directions
- Add the fenugreek seeds and ginger to a small saucepan with 1 cup of water.
- Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Strain the liquid into a cup.
- Add the fresh lemon juice.
- Stir in the olive oil just before drinking.
- Drink while warm.
What It May Actually Do
The ingredients can provide fluids and flavor, but drinking more fluid is not the same as dissolving a stone. Some kidney stones can pass naturally depending on their size and location, while others require medical treatment.
Lemon contains citrate, which is relevant to kidney-stone prevention for some people, but lemon water shouldn’t be presented as a treatment that dissolves existing stones.
If You Suspect a Kidney Stone
Kidney stones can cause:
- Severe pain in the side or back
- Pain that moves toward the lower abdomen or groin
- Nausea or vomiting
- Blood in the urine
- Pain or burning when urinating
Seek medical evaluation if you suspect a stone, especially if the pain is severe.
Important: Possible UTI
A UTI can cause burning during urination, frequent urination, pelvic discomfort, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, and sometimes blood in the urine.
Fever, chills, vomiting, or pain in the back/side can indicate a kidney infection and require prompt medical attention.
Don’t rely on this drink to treat an infection. UTIs may require antibiotics prescribed by a healthcare professional.
A Safer Claim for This Recipe
Instead of:
“It removes kidney stones, dissolves gravel, and cures urinary infections.”
Use:
“A warming ginger, lemon, fenugreek and olive-oil drink that can be enjoyed as part of a healthy hydration routine.”
This drink may be a pleasant home beverage, but it is not a proven kidney-stone dissolver or UTI treatment.
