Baby Oil & Egg for Anti-Aging? Here’s the Safer Reality
Baby oil and egg are sometimes promoted online as a homemade anti-aging face treatment, but there isn’t good evidence that this combination removes wrinkles or reverses skin aging.
Baby oil is generally mineral oil with fragrance and can act as an occlusive, helping reduce moisture loss. Egg can temporarily make skin feel tighter as it dries, but that effect isn’t the same as reducing wrinkles.
If you’re looking for a simple DIY treatment, a better approach is to avoid raw egg and use a basic moisturizer instead.
Simple Overnight Moisturizing Treatment
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon fragrance-free facial moisturizer
- 1–2 drops plain mineral oil or baby oil, preferably fragrance-free
Directions
- Wash your face gently with lukewarm water.
- Pat your skin dry.
- Apply your normal facial moisturizer.
- Mix 1–2 drops of oil into the moisturizer in your palm.
- Apply a thin layer to dry areas of your face.
- Avoid the eyes and eyelids.
- Leave it overnight and wash normally the next morning.
Why Skip the Raw Egg?
Raw egg can contain bacteria such as Salmonella, and applying it to the face can also cause irritation or allergic reactions in susceptible people.
If you already have irritated, broken, or acne-prone skin, homemade mixtures can make the problem worse.
What Actually Helps With Skin Aging?
For a more evidence-based anti-aging routine:
Morning
- Gentle cleanser
- Moisturizer
- Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen
Evening
- Gentle cleanser
- Moisturizer
- Consider a retinoid/retinol product if appropriate for you
Sun protection is especially important because cumulative UV exposure is a major contributor to premature skin aging.
Bottom Line
Baby oil may help dry skin feel softer, but baby oil + egg isn’t a proven wrinkle treatment. A good moisturizer and daily sunscreen are much better foundations for maintaining healthy, younger-looking skin.
