Apple Pie Biscuits
These Apple Pie Biscuits combine buttery, fluffy biscuits with warm cinnamon-spiced apples and a sweet vanilla glaze. They’re incredibly easy to make and taste like a cross between homemade apple pie and freshly baked cinnamon biscuits.
🛒 Ingredients
For the Biscuits
- 1 can (8-count) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Apple Filling
- 1 can (21 oz / 595 g) apple pie filling
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice, optional
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Glaze
- ½ cup (60 g) powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Generously butter a 10-inch skillet or round baking dish.
2. Make the Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture
In a small bowl, combine:
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
Mix well and set aside.
3. Prepare the Apple Filling
Place the apple pie filling on a cutting board and roughly chop the apple pieces into smaller chunks.
Transfer them to a bowl and stir in the vanilla, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
The smaller apple pieces distribute more evenly over the biscuits.
4. Coat the Biscuits
Pour the melted butter into a shallow bowl.
Dip each biscuit into the butter, making sure both sides are coated.
Immediately roll or sprinkle the biscuit with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Arrange the biscuits in the prepared skillet, leaving a little space between them.
5. Add the Apples
Spoon the apple pie filling evenly over the biscuits.
Drizzle any remaining melted butter over the top.
Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over the apples and biscuits.
🔥 6. Bake
Bake for approximately 30–35 minutes, until the biscuits are puffed, golden brown, and cooked through and the apple filling is bubbling.
If the tops become too brown before the biscuits are fully cooked, loosely cover the dish with foil for the remaining baking time.
🍯 7. Make the Glaze
While the biscuits are baking, whisk together:
- Powdered sugar
- Milk or cream
- Vanilla
Add the milk a little at a time until you get a smooth, pourable glaze.
8. Glaze and Serve
Let the biscuits cool for about 5–10 minutes.
Drizzle the vanilla glaze generously over the warm apple pie biscuits.
Serve while warm.
🍏 Using Fresh Apples Instead
For a completely homemade version, replace the canned filling with:
- 3–4 medium apples, peeled and diced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
Cook the apples with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for about 5–7 minutes. Mix the cornstarch with water, stir it into the apples, and cook for another minute until the filling thickens. Let it cool slightly before using.
✨ Tips for the Best Apple Pie Biscuits
- Don’t overcrowd the skillet. Give the biscuits room to expand.
- Chop canned apple filling into smaller pieces for easier eating.
- Use dark brown sugar for a deeper caramel flavor.
- Add a tiny pinch of cloves for extra warmth.
- For a crunchy topping, sprinkle chopped pecans over the apples before baking.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an incredible dessert.
- For an extra caramel flavor, drizzle warm caramel sauce over the finished biscuits.
🍽️ Serving
These are best served warm, when the apples are gooey and the biscuits are buttery and soft. They make a wonderful breakfast, brunch treat, or easy dessert.
