3-Ingredient Mounds Bars
These easy 3-Ingredient Mounds Bars are a simple homemade treat made with just shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and chocolate chips. The coconut filling is soft, chewy, and sweet, while the chocolate coating adds a rich finish. No complicated ingredients or special equipment are needed, making these perfect for a quick dessert or homemade candy.
Ingredients
- 2 cups shredded coconut
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Make the Coconut Mixture
In a medium bowl, combine the shredded coconut and sweetened condensed milk. Stir until the coconut is evenly coated and the mixture becomes thick and sticky.
2. Shape the Bars
Line a baking sheet or small dish with parchment paper.
Scoop portions of the coconut mixture onto the parchment and shape them into small rectangular bars. Press them firmly so they hold their shape.
Place the tray in the refrigerator for about 30–45 minutes, or until the bars are firm.
3. Melt the Chocolate
Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until completely smooth and melted.
You can also melt the chocolate gently in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.
4. Coat the Bars
Using a fork or dipping tool, carefully dip each chilled coconut bar into the melted chocolate. Turn it gently to coat all sides.
Allow any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl, then place the coated bars back onto the parchment-lined tray.
5. Chill
Refrigerate the bars for about 20–30 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely set.
Once firm, they’re ready to serve.
Tips for the Best Mounds Bars
- Use unsweetened shredded coconut if you prefer a less sweet filling.
- Chill the coconut mixture before dipping to make the bars easier to handle.
- Dark chocolate gives the bars a richer, less-sweet flavor, while semi-sweet chocolate provides a more classic candy taste.
- If the chocolate becomes too thick while dipping, warm it briefly and stir until smooth.
- Press the coconut mixture firmly when shaping so the bars don’t crumble.
Storage
Store the finished Mounds Bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for a softer coconut texture.
These bars can also be frozen in a sealed container for longer storage. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together.
Serving Ideas
Serve these homemade coconut chocolate bars chilled or slightly softened at room temperature. They’re perfect for dessert trays, holiday candy plates, afternoon treats, or whenever you’re craving a simple chocolate-and-coconut combination.
