Chocolate Chip Cookies with Buttery Softness
These Chocolate Chip Cookies with Buttery Softness are soft, chewy, and packed with melty chocolate chips. Rich butter, brown sugar, and vanilla give them a delicious homemade flavor, while the centers stay tender and slightly gooey.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
1. Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.
2. Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for 2–3 minutes, until light and creamy.
3. Add the Eggs
Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Add the vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
4. Combine the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
5. Add the Chocolate Chips
Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
6. Scoop the Dough
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 20–30 minutes before baking.
7. Bake
Bake for 9–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden but the centers still look slightly soft.
Don’t overbake—the cookies will continue to set as they cool.
8. Cool
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Recipe Tips
- Use softened butter rather than melted butter for a thicker, softer cookie.
- Don’t overmix the dough after adding the flour.
- Slightly underbaking the cookies helps keep the centers soft and chewy.
- For extra chocolate flavor, use a combination of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips.
- Sprinkle a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt over the warm cookies if desired.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Cookie dough can be frozen in individual portions and baked directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
