Sugar-Free Condensed Milk with Just 3 Ingredients
If you love the creamy richness of condensed milk but want to skip the added sugar, this 3-ingredient sugar-free condensed milk is an easy homemade alternative. It’s thick, smooth, and perfect for coffee, desserts, cakes, puddings, and other recipes.
Ingredients
- 4 cups (960 ml) whole milk
- ½ cup granulated sugar substitute such as allulose or erythritol
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Directions
- Combine the milk and sweetener
Pour the whole milk into a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Add the sugar substitute and whisk until combined. - Start cooking
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the milk to a gentle simmer. Don’t let it boil rapidly, as the milk can scorch or overflow. - Reduce the milk
Lower the heat to medium-low. Simmer uncovered for approximately 35–50 minutes, stirring frequently, especially toward the end. - Check the consistency
The milk should reduce significantly and become noticeably thicker. It should coat the back of a spoon. - Add the butter
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the butter until completely melted and incorporated. - Blend for extra smoothness
For an exceptionally smooth texture, transfer the mixture to a blender and blend briefly. Be careful when blending hot liquids. - Cool
Pour into a clean jar and allow it to cool completely. It will become thicker as it cools.
How to Use It
Use your homemade sugar-free condensed milk in:
- Sugar-free desserts
- Coffee and tea
- Cheesecakes
- Fudge
- Ice cream
- Puddings
- Cakes and frostings
- No-bake desserts
Tips for the Best Results
- Allulose generally gives a smoother, more condensed-milk-like texture than erythritol because erythritol can crystallize as it cools.
- Use whole milk for the creamiest result.
- Keep the heat low once the milk begins reducing to prevent scorching.
- Stir regularly so the milk doesn’t stick to the bottom.
- If it becomes too thick, whisk in a tablespoon or two of warm milk.
Storage: Keep refrigerated in an airtight container and use within 4–5 days.
