Clove Tea
Clover Tea is a simple herbal infusion made by steeping dried or fresh clover flowers in hot water. It has a mild, naturally earthy flavor and can be enjoyed warm or chilled. With just a few ingredients, it’s an easy caffeine-free beverage to prepare at home.
Ingredients
- 1–2 teaspoons dried clover flowers
- 1 cup hot water
- ½ teaspoon honey, optional
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional
Directions
1. Heat the Water
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil, then let it cool for about 1 minute.
Very aggressively boiling water isn’t necessary and can make delicate herbal flavors more bitter.
2. Add the Clover
Place the dried clover flowers in a teacup or small teapot.
Pour the hot water over the flowers.
3. Steep
Cover the cup and let the tea steep for approximately 5–10 minutes.
The longer it steeps, the stronger the flavor will become.
4. Strain
Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer to remove the flowers.
5. Add Flavor
Stir in honey or fresh lemon juice if desired.
Enjoy warm, or allow the tea to cool and serve over ice.
Tips for Making Clover Tea
- Use properly identified, food-grade clover rather than flowers collected from roadsides, lawns, or areas treated with pesticides.
- Start with a small amount of flowers if you’re unfamiliar with the flavor.
- Honey pairs nicely with the mild floral taste.
- For iced tea, make the infusion slightly stronger and pour it over plenty of ice.
Optional Herbal Blend
For a more flavorful cup, combine:
- 1 teaspoon clover flowers
- ½ teaspoon dried mint
- ½ teaspoon chamomile
- 1 cup hot water
Steep for 5–10 minutes, strain, and enjoy.
Important Note
Clover tea is best enjoyed as a beverage rather than as a treatment for a medical condition. Claims that clover tea can cure diseases, eliminate pain, or produce specific health effects aren’t well established. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, or have a medical condition, it’s wise to check with a healthcare professional before regularly consuming herbal preparations.
